Ireland’s economy has an average annual growth rate of 7.3%, which has enabled Ireland to invest 8.79 billion Euros in education annually. With 89% of the population finishing high school and 47% of Irish citizens holding a post-secondary diploma or degree of some sort, this island nation is ready for any challenge.

Finnish students consistently rank in top spots on the PISA rankings, an international survey which ranks nations in reading, math, and science. With 100% national literacy, its 63% university graduation rate is the highest in the world. With free tuition for all citizens, this barrier to education has been removed. It is one of the few countries where fields of business, social sciences, and law are not the most popular among students, but instead new entrants in tertiary institutions prefer studying manufacturing, engineering, and construction.

Australia’s postsecondary holders constitute 39% of its total population; annual growth rate is 3.3%, GDP per capita of $40,719 and 59% college graduation rate. Its college graduation rate is the best in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia’s education standards can be said to be at their peak.

The country has the world’s third-greatest expenditure on education and with 60% of all tertiary students taking bachelor’s programs, the country is headed in a positive direction in terms of education.

Because of its wealth and economic success, it has been chosen as the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the first Arab nation to ever hold this role.

10. Switzerland: GPI score: 1.349. Though Switzerland received the lowest score for political instability, they received a 10th place finish due to mandatory military service and the amount of weapons they export (relative to their size)

9. Finland: GPI score: 1.348. Finland has consistently made the top ten of the GPI since (at least) 2007, and fell from 7th place due to other countries becoming more peaceful rather than anything they did to change their ranking.

8. Slovenia: GPI score: 1.330. Slovenia has the distinction of being the most peaceful of the 29 countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

7. Ireland: GPI score: 1.328. Ireland is re-entering the top ten after falling out of it in the GPI 2011 index. They were able to reclaim a place at the top of the list “by reducing [their] military expenditure to just 1.2% of its gross domestic product and by increasing its political stability, which has far-reaching effects on internal peace.”

6. Austria: GPI score: 1.328. Austria is the third most peaceful of the European nations on the list, due to their low crime and homicide rates.
